Enjoy the majesty of Muir Woods without fighting traffic on
California’s narrow, windy Highway 1. Take Golden Gate Transit’s
(GGT’s) Route 66 to view the giant redwoods this summer. GGT will operate the popular Route 66 Muir Woods Shuttle from Saturday, May 27, 2006 (Memorial Day weekend) through Monday, September 4, 2006 (Labor Day weekend). The service is offered weekends and holidays only, including Monday, July 3. Riders can board at GGT’s main transit stop at Donahue Street and Terners Drive in Marin City (Marin City/Sausalito exit from Highway 101, right at end of exit ramp) or at the nearby Manzanita Park and Ride lot (free parking) in Mill Valley (at the off ramp at Highway 1/Stinson Beach exit). For the convenience of travelers, Route 66 operates at 30-minute intervals. Round trip cash fares are collected for departures to Muir Woods. Fares are as follows: adults - $2.00, youth (ages 6 to 18), seniors (65+) and persons with disabilities - $1.00. Route 66 accepts transfers for free travel to Muir Woods from any bus trip originating within Marin County. Marin County is comprised of Belvedere, Corte Madera, Fairfax, Larkspur, Mill Valley, Novato, Ross, San Anselmo, San Rafael, Sausalito and Tiburon. When travel originates outside of Marin County, for instance, San Francisco County, transfers are not accepted for continuing travel to Muir Woods. Transfers are given from Route 66 for passengers returning to points within Marin County only and transfers will not be issued for connections to any regional service. Muir Woods, a small park, showcases the coastal redwood or sequoia, the tallest type of tree on the planet. The park was named after conservationist John Muir and provides visitors the opportunity to take nature walks, bird watch or hike. *Subject to change without notice.
