Your St. Louis Connection - Metrolink

The Metrolink opened during the summer of 1993 after six years of development with nearly 20 stations between Lambert International Airport and its East Riverfront Station across the Mississippi River in Illinois. Since then, extensions have been added bringing the system to 27 stations over 38 miles. Stops include:

Stations in St. Louis
The Delmar Loop
, which puts riders near the Tivoli Theater. Built in 1924, the theater reopened in May 1995 following a $2 million-plus renovation. The Tivoli features one of the finest independent film and foreign language cinemas.

Forest Park is the site of the 1904 World Fair and today home of the St Louis Art Museum, the St Louis Zoo and summertime Muny Opera. One hundred year's later, the park was renovated to improve parking, recreational activities, the natural ecosystems, its infrastructure and green space.

Central West End has always been a trendy part of town with its restaurants and cafés. Its architecture makes it worthy of a neighborhood walking tour.

Union Station - see our story on St. Louis Union Station.

The America's Center
houses the city's convention center and Edward Jones Dome exhibition space that can be magically transformed into a football field and concert venue.

Busch Stadium
, home of the St Louis Cardinals from 1966 to 2005, is located near the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. A new stadium with the same moniker will open in spring 2006.

Visitors to The Arch can experience this architectural and engineering feat, as well as the Museum of Western Expansion. Within steps of the riverfront are Laclede's Landing and entertainment district, formerly warehouses, and riverboats.

Across the River in Illinois
Southwestern Illinois College, formerly Belleville Area College, is situated near Eckert Country Farm and Store with its seasonal selection of strawberries, blackberries, peaches, apples, pumpkins and Christmas trees.

Scott Air Force Base is significant to the local economy. It manages a domestic aero-medical evacuation system, commands and supervises all operational support airlifts within the US and provides initial qualification training for C-9 pilots.

By riding the rail from end to end, it's possible to see vast contrasts. A portion of the original line was built through fairly industrial and urban areas, the eastern sections beyond the city of East St. Louis are rural with vistas of cows and cornfields.

MetroLink Light Rail Service ranges from six-minute intervals during peak weekday times to 30-minute intervals during off-peak weekday and early and late weekend time periods. Various passes are available and can also be purchased online.
