Illumina Public Art Project

455 North 10th Street
Omaha, Nebraska
Public Art
The Qwest Center Omaha Convention Center’s 250,000-square foot facility is complimented by a $2 million public art project, “Illumina.” The display, consisting of more than 40 sculptures, was inspired by the 13th century Carnival of Venice and designed by Omaha artist Matthew Placzek. According to Placzek’s Web site, the project is “anchored by a magnificent, illuminated 35-foot stainless steel clock, Illumina features oversized bronze figures including a Mardi Gras celebrant, French mime, juggler, saxophonist, horn player and a 14-foot tall stilts walker.

Numerous multi-colored spheres also adorn the arena lobby…an illuminated sphere sculpture produces a state-of-the-art, energized light show in the evenings…

The entire sculpture...consists of more than 2,000 LED lights, 4,000 pounds of bronze, 28,000 pounds of stainless steel and 360 tons of concrete…”
