Wheelhouse Restaurant
The Wheelhouse Restaurant sits downtown across from the marina. It looks as if it has been a mainstay in the community for a number of years. Tables are set around the two sides of the room and an upper deck is raised to provide those in the back a view as well. This would be Bandon’s version of a special occasions restaurant with a solid line-up of seafood, steaks and pastas, but without the stuffiness. Waitresses work the room with ease. If you come early (before 7 p.m.) or have reservations, you’re likely to get a seat, otherwise expect to stand in line - even on a weeknight.
The scallops at $20.95 were plentiful and done perfectly. With a choice of crab Louie or shrimp Louie at $15.50, the shrimp version was a healthy and filling alternative. Oregon wines are predominant on the wine list.
Dessert options included chocolate mousse and an odd concoction with the word Russian in the name that we were told was a regional dessert.
