Built on the banks of Verde Creek, this historic site served a nearby military fort. While the fort was decommissioned, the community built around the store and post office remained. The building is reconstructed; it continues as a general store, plus cafe and gift shop. And the camels...they were part of a successful Army experiment - they served as hardy transport "vehicles."
