Monticello Introduces Audio Tour of Jefferson's Home, Garden & Grounds

Visitors can now explore Thomas Jefferson's mountaintop Monticello, its gardens and grounds at their own pace thanks to an audio tour. The recorded guide features 30 stops that cover various aspects of the historic property, including the evolution of plantation landscape, agriculture, the orchards and vineyards, the flower and vegetable gardens, Mulberry Row, the kitchen and other dependencies, archaeology, and architecture.

The tour, utilizing a lightweight hand-held wand, comes with an accompanying map with a suggested route or visitors can set their own itinerary. Available for a nominal fee in the museum shop, the tour's total running time is approximately one hour.

Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Sissy Spacek, it features Thomas Jefferson, as well as commentary by members of Monticellos restoration, history, garden and archaeology staff.

As part of its admission price, Monticello staff continue to offer guided tours of the gardens and grounds (usually eight times daily), as well as tours of the plantation community (usually six times daily) from early April through late October.
