Comprised of the original Taylor Museum on Dale Street and the FAC Modern at 121 South Tejon Street, Taylor showcases religious works; Native American art in textiles, basketry, pottery, silverwork, and wood carvings; figurative drawings; 19th and 20th centuries, and modern American art; Latin American art; students/artists of the Broadmoor Academy at Colorado Springs from 1919 to 1945; and works by glass artist Dale Chihuly. For more than 50 years, the Flying W Ranch, a working ranch, has been offering a chuck wagon dinner show, so as to keep the flavor of the Old West alive. Arrive early to walk through the Western Village with 12 unique shops - an old-fashioned drug store, a blacksmith shop, Navajo rug weaving, the jail, a church and schoolhouse, plus a train. The red rock formations of the Garden of the Gods provide the backdrop for festivities. See for yourself, the unique shapes like the Tower of Babel, cathedral spires, kissing camels and Siamese twins. At the nature center find a mineral display, large topographical maps, replicas of area wildlife and hands-on activities for children. Temporary homes and towns were established until the ore was mined out and then the residents packed up their tents and moved on. The museum seeks to re-create those earlier times; even their buildings were constructed from remnants of those earlier towns.
